Cancer, Master of Disguise
Brain metastases are responsible for a large proportion of the deaths due to breast cancer. According to a recent study in the prestigious journal PNAS, the morbidity associated with these metastases is due to the ability of the cancerous cells to masquerade as neurons in order to fool the brain’s defences and to succeed in invading this organ.
