Make new neurons, even at an advanced age

A post-mortem analysis of brains from elderly individuals has revealed the presence of new neurons formed within the hippocampus (the seat of memory). These new neurons are, however, absent in people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, suggesting that a deficit in neurogenesis, the formation of neurons, could contribute to the development of this disease.
